Autumn Camp from Curiosity Workshops: Monday 26th October, Hilly Fields

Hi everyone,

It feels like only yesterday that the Pop-Up Summer Club for children was running in Hilly Fields, Brockley, and it’s already time for an Autumn Camp. We’ll be running through half term, starting Monday 26th October to Friday 30th.

Last time around, with activities around ‘Cooking, Crafts and Curiosities’, the theme was measurement, and included making sundials, maps, compasses and blackberry tarts. This time, the theme is symbols and languages, with the following activities on the menu:

We’ll be based in that log circle just beyond the hot chocolate from Pistachios in the Park - supportive as ever - with a bespoke shelter currently in production (see bottom pic). There are some nice photos from the Summer Camp on the Curiosity Workshops website, alongside plenty of additional information and a reservation form.

It’s been amazing to have SLMS makers so involved. Beyond the usual invaluable contributions around the space, a handful of Makers are more actively involved with preparations and running activities at the camp. It’s particularly special to have had a couple of Makers’ children participating, and a couple more joining for the Autumn Camp, so I thought I’d share here the 20% Makerspace discount for all ye fob bearers in case any more would like to join.

Thanks to all those who have helped, can’t imagine a better community to be supported by. Friday 30th October is the last day, and if I’m still on my feet, perhaps I’ll see some of you at this well-timed Halloween Makers Meal being organised by @angeleim

Ciao for now

Cool! What material did you go with in the end?

In Ivory… classy. Hopefully not immediately messy. That will running along the bottom half of the shelter, extending beyond a little bit to give some coverage to the doorway. And for the upper half, I have two of these 3m x 3m alpkit tarps (one old, one new) to keep the weight down and keep it a little simpler for now.

Fabric should arrive tomorrow  woke up wishing it was orange like in the picture

Good luck! Seems like a sensible choice
