Attaching box blank to face plate
This is how I attach a box blank to the faceplate. It’s how I made my recent light fitting.
Screw piece of wood to faceplate.
Turn true.
Drill mortise.
Rough out box blank between centres.
Carefully size tenon to fit mortise.
Glue in place.
Check square.
Use.
The tenon must be an interference fit in the mortise. If I removed too much material, I would remove 99 percent of the tenon and create a new one using the remnant of the bad tenon as a guide.
Vernier calipers are very useful for the fitting. I remove the wood from the lathe and check the fit once I am close.
Enjoy.
