Art using Maker technologies talk at the Makerspace, 4th December

We have an opportunity of hosting a talk by the very talented and interesting James Abel on the evening of Friday 4th December.

This is why he’s in London:

This is some of his thinking:

Here’s his site:

One of his recent projects was the FabLab London Dymaxion map, he’s happy to do a talk about the making of this which I think would be a great entry point into his experience with how to make art with maker technologies.

I’m putting this out to gauge interest/approval from members. So let me know your thoughts below.

Personally I’d like us to have regular organised talks and workshops along these lines. That was an influence on the design of phase 1 from the start: we wanted it to have a classroom/presentation/workshop flexibility, and for the Space to bring events like this into the area.

I agree. From the presentation he posted, he speaks in a very open and accessible way.

Oh yes, very keen for us to be hosting things like this. I might even be able to come…

Thirded. Tho’ note that’s a date clash with the Maku hackathon.

Yes, I noticed the date clash!

So, the reaction is positive, but this will mean the space is out of action for noisy work on that evening. So it would be good to hear if that’s a foreseeable PITA for anyone?

Great news this is on for Friday! From 7 til 9

And it’s completely free to SLMS members.

Although it might be fun to bring a bit of food…

I’ll make a new post for people to sign up on, but we’re going to keep the numbers down to about 10
