Arduino Day - Planning

How many people are you expecting to bring from “outside” the space?

If you meant RSVPs we have 85 so far on our meetup page but it’s really hard to know how many will come, if you meant exhibitors/volunteers we should have about 10.

That’s good, I do wonder if we are going to need some kind of way to understand who is helping and who is visiting , like a badge…

Badges! Quick, to the lasercutter!
Good point, easiest might be name tags stickers with roles (organiser, maker etc.) which I can bring

Well, I’m in the space tonight, I guess I can cut 10/15 of them

We have/had two badges for Open Evening, but Arduino day ones would be better, especially as we one have two at the most of the others…

But the design of the existing badges is already posted, and the materials are already in the space!

If you’re printing/designing badges specially for the event would be good to feature London Arduino as well, just saying

Looks like the weather is not on our side, can we fit everyone inside?

We have a strict limit of 60 people in the space, due to fire regs.

Let’s be optimistic. Cold again though!

Think it’s a bit late for the badges debate !

I’ve got my official Makerspace one, Andreas has a laser cut name badge + I have a couple of huge sheets of the official Arduino Day Badges (I’ll drop them off at the space tonight) as giveaways.

Couple of points of order, Andreas @emuboy will be there early-ish tomorrow. He’ll be managing the day and can help Marc (@marc_barto) and the guys in setup and layout. Please help him where you can, especially with keeping the sofa area clear as that’s where the short courses will be held + it’s on the fire escape route. I believe @Dermot will be setting up too, he can advise on H&S requirements as well…

We have a few members popping in to help too with everything from soldering (kits are laid out on the electronics bench) through to general help and chaperoning. I believe Marc and the guys will also be helping with Arduino type queries too.

I am gutted I can’t be there on Saturday but will be doing the Sunday

Many thanks for all the help and good luck !

Courty

We have some basic badges, I cutted about 12 of them yesterday night :

We are really grateful to everyone who is contributing to the event and we support other’s initiative and we are the first to promote collaboration between different makers/hackers group but I would like to remind that this is the SLMS Arduino day and @electrotechs are going to be there all the weekend and we are taking the responsibility of the event.

Yes, I’ll be there early on Saturday to help set up…before going off to two other events/commitments…busy days.

We’ve been promoting it widely as a partnership with London Arduino, but realistically it’s probably too late for the badges…unless there are some stickers you can add?

Yes, I’ll give a H&S overview and brief everyone before we open. Will probably make a crib sheet as we have people dropping in and out all weekend.

If we’re setting up only inside it looks like we’ll need about 8 tables for exhibitors, plus some for visitors to hack/jam + space for workshop. Would that work? It’s a bigger setup that the Arduino Day we did together 2 years ago. If needed we could put 2 makers per table.

It’s going to be a challenge: we got rid of our desks in favour of much better electronics benches, however they don’t have the flexibility of the desks.

We have some space in the Messy workshop…so with a bit of imagination…we should be able to make it work.

We might well get rid of most of the chairs, just leaving a few where people might be tinkering.

Anyone got any spare tables? There’s a big one in the snug that will get used.

Plus we can cover the screen printing table and use that? That okay with @silkscreentechs?

We can store our gear in the snug and keep that ‘members only’ too.

@electrotechs the electronics benches will be available?

@textilestechs okay to use the wheelie standing table?

@metaltechs can we move the disassembled pillar drill and use the metal bench if needed?

OK with me, no printing planned. I might make a top for it so no one is doing electronics on a metal surface

That would be most excellent, and of long-term use!

The pile of ply in the space is mainly earmarked for @joeatkin2, but depending on when he needs it you may be able to harvest some, and I’ll pick up more in the week?

No, people keep trowing stuff on them , are messy again, dirty and full of any kind of abandoned projects parts , every time I ask people to clean after them self I’ve been ignored, any time I ask people to move their personal belongings from there I find excuses. So I just gave up on them , at the moment are used as storage or as small desks , with stains of coffee/tea…

Yeah, it looked a bit like that to me. Maybe it needs to be risky to leave stuff there? As people might have found when leaving gear on the large tables?

I don’t know, polite manners failed with some individuals. For sure I will not clean the table if people don’t start to respect some basic social (and actual) rules…

You ciuld make a temporary table with saw horses? I think we have 4?

Also what time does it start?

yes of course! please help your self.

also if you like you could use the sit down sewing table.
it just has a couple of sewing machines on it.
