APC 220 Wireless Comms module

Hello Boys and Girls,

I was wondering if anyone here of an electronic persuasion has had any experience with the APC 220 wireless comms modules. They seem to be a cost effective alternative to Xbee, at least on the face of it:-

I have read a lot of conflicting reports online. Some say they are fantastic and give reliable transparent comms, others say they simply cannot get them to work at all.

So, Ladies and Gents, what do youse think?

Comments greatly appreciated,

Carl.

I used a pair on a remote greenhouse monitor I built a few years back and even on the daft stubby antennas it worked fine over ~100ft
Hardest bit is managing the data efficiently over the serial link but it’s perfectly do-able

BTW you need a pair, this is a better deal : https://www.ebay.co.uk/ulk/itm/151994655105

Hello Courty,

Many thanks for your reply. Thank you also for the link, I already have a pair of these transceivers, just haven’t got around to doing anything with them yet.

The range you got sounds encouraging. Whilst hunting around for information I found this which gives some information on setting these devices up:-

Thanks again for the information,

Carl.

If you compare to RS prices for an Xbee you aren’t saving much.

I suspect the RS prices will be ex vat and not include shipping. The bang good page, as an example, gives you the pair for £22 with no shipping costs. I’ve seen individual Xbee modules for that price on other sites.

Cheers,

Carl.
