Another shoe rack

Just finished a new shoe rack, it seems like I haven’t been the only one building them at the moment. Part of the reason I went with build over buy is that we have a narrow hall and need to get a large pram through it, combined with high architraves I struggled to find anything I liked.

Inspiration came from this ad online:

At £70 like all makers I thought I could make something cheaper and maybe even better. After countless hours of designs, multiple days of 3d printing, and at least half a dozen test cuts with the CNC, I can say without a shadow of a doubt that I was wrong.

Finished:

Version 1 was 3d printed from ASA with zero top and bottom layers so you see the infill pattern:

I was lazy and just left a space for a nut so it could be secured with a bolt from behind:

Version 1.1 saw the inclusion of heat set inserts to make for a cleaner look and slight alterations to the dimensions:

One of my test cuts on the small CNC ended up with the best finish:

Sadly that was the last of that ply I had and the dimensions were still a little off.
The final result is easily something I can live with

Excellent job! Those look great, and love your iterative design process.

Looks fab!!

Wow. Love the side pattern. Really top of the range in function and design.

I’ll also add that this is the perfect thing to sell for £100 on Etsy

And could sell the earlier iterations too.

Thanks all, I’m taking “you could probably sell that” as a huge compliment
