Advice on using table saw to cut MDF kitchen plinths

Hello,

I’m Michael, a new member who completed the woodworking induction last Friday.

In my kitchen I had a new floor installed which is a few millimetres higher than my old one. I therefore require to cut the under cupboard MDF Kitchen Plinth/ Kickboards to be shorter along the length of the bottom surface. I believe I only need to take about 3mm off.

During the Woodworking induction I was shown the Table Saw and @mbg recommended that the table saw would be the correct tool to achieve this.

I have haven’t done woodworking since I was in secondary school, a very time ago so I am looking for advice from anyone on how I could use the table saw to make my cuts.

I have 4 MDF boards, ranging in length from 50cm to 220cm

Would any of the @woodtechs be able to supervise me if I use the Table saw for my cuts? I am able to get to the Makerspace by train and weekdays the service is more regular, but I can also make time in weekends too. I have time available from next week onwards

Many thanks in advance for your help!

Cheers

Michael

Hi Michael,

We’ll be in on Sunday if you can make that work

Hi @mbg thank you!

Sunday will be fine for me, what time works best? Afternoon?

Cheers

Michael

I just saw that there is a woodwork induction tomorrow so I’ll be there at 1pm

Thanks for the help today, I learnt a lot about safely cutting MDF and more woodworking skill. The plinths all fit back in my kitchen nicely

Glad it worked out - you must have measured well!

As I said, the track saw/multi purpose table induction is highly recommended.

You’re welcome, any time. Someone will always help you in the wood shop - you just need to ask.
