3D Printing in Africa

Hi all. I am launching a social venture that aims to be 3D printing to the developing world. Many developing countries face the problem of weak manufacturing sectors and poor supply chains. This can be a challenge for local SMEs, who often struggle to get the goods they need. Goods that are available locally are often expensive, have long lead times and are not made to the exact specifications of local businesses.

To get around these issues, we aim to “manufacture” goods at source using 3D printers. We will be launching in Kenya in the next few months. The project is fully open source.

I will be in London for the month of January. If you are interested in the project, or know anyone who might be, get in touch!

On another note, I saw that someone people have been asking about the process of making a 3D printer on some other threads. I have made a couple of machines myself and am happy to share my experiences.

Would you be interested in coming to give a talk at the space? What you’re doing sounds fascinating and I’m sure we could whip up some interest here @Trustees

Great! Is there a date that works better for people? Any time from next week is good for me.
