Hello all,

i’m doing a conversion from my old Prusa 3D printer
bosh >

Into a 8w laser cutting diode machine device contraption.

It’s pretty powerful all things considered so i need to update the bed from acrylic to something else.
I was thinking about having a steel sheet cut to size to go over the acrylic base, essentially replacing the glass printing surface and then having spacers with a stainless steel mesh on top. Essentially i’m trying to emulate a honeycomb bed like in more powerful laser cutters so there is a bit of air around the cut point, stopping/reducing singe marks.

Has anybody done anything like this before?
Any guidance welcome!

I have a 1 watt Chinese version of this and the bed is coated aluminium I think. Like the grid idea though…

Nice, do you find it useful?

What is your aluminium coated with? I thought about that too, but i’m not sure what substance I should use.
