3D printed Replacement Bike light mount spacer Cateye AMPP 400 (stripped bolt)

Hello everyone, I thought I’d document my first attempt at using the 3D printer to replace a broken bike part.

I have a Cateye APP 400 bike light with a broken mount spacer. This acts as an interface between the bike mount, and the light. The spacer is screwed to the light.

Whilst the light manufacturer sells a spare part, it’s not the same one as I need for my model: https://www.cateyecycling.co.uk/products/cateye-ampp-800-bracket-spacer

I found an example of the spacer I need on Thingyverse Cateye Fahrradleuchte (Platte) by Marius20 - Thingiverse

The 3d design did not quite work correctly in Bambu studio so I had to run it through an STL conversion website to fix it, as there were floating components.

I had completed the 3d printing induction on Saturday last week so thanks to Sam Day I learnt about the tree supports, which I set up for the design.

John and Leia were present on Monday 3rd so they helped me print out the design in PLA.

The component printed to my satisfaction, and fits the bike mount. (It is blue)

The only problem have now is the mount spacer is screwed to the light by an allen headed bolt, and it is stripped, so I can’t remove the old broken on and replace it with the new 3D printed one.

I am in a bit of pickle, I was told there is a screw remover tool in the Makers space?

I am trying some of the steps in this guide How to Remove a Stripped Allen Screw: 11 Fast & Easy Tricks and I have a Silverline torx screwdriver set with multiple screw heads

Success!

With advice from other Makers, I managed to cut a notch in the stripped allan bolt with a hacksaw, and unscrewed it.

I could then place my blue 3D printed mount onto the light and screw it back in.

The original mount screw needed replacement as it was very rusty, but I found on in the metal workshop.

The bike light can successfully be attached to my bike as intended. Project complete!
