[2 spaces avail] Course: Absolute Beginners Intro to Electronics | Sat 14 Mar 2026

This course is designed to give absolute beginners an introduction to key electronic principles, focusing on practical learning and first principles. The goal is to provide you with a clear, structured introduction to electronics that you can build on as you continue your learning journey.

If you are not sure if the course is for you, take a look at the presentation.

Here’s what ChatGPT said after it read the PowerPoint presentation for the course…

Hands-on, beginner-friendly, and fun!
Dive into the world of electronics with zero prior experience. Whether you’re curious about blinking LEDs or building smart gadgets, this course will guide you through the foundations—step by step.

You’ll learn to:

  • Build circuits with breadboards, resistors, LEDs, and more
  • Understand and use capacitors, transistors, and the 555 timer IC
  • Program microcontrollers like the ESP32 using Arduino IDE
  • Connect sensors and modules for real-world applications
  • Explore the concepts of prototyping and moving beyond the breadboard
  • Get started with your own Internet of Things (IoT) projects

Course details

  • 10:00 for a 10:30am start to max 5:00pm
  • SLMS members only
  • Practical and demonstrations/discussions
  • Take home the kit afterwards
  • Cost: Kit (£10) plus facilitator fee (donation of your choice)

Is this okay to join as a semi beginner?
I’ve worked with aduinos and fairly basic circuit design (breadboard/stripboard) in the past, but it’s been a few years since I’ve made anything more complex than LED stripboard circuits so I could do with a refresh of the bits I used to know, and I’m keen to learn the remaining topics this covers. But I don’t want to take a place a way from a total beginner if it’s not appropriate

Hi Oscar. You are welcome to join. I’m not sure you will get a lot out of it.
You can have a look at the PDF linked in the first post to get an idea of the depth and breadth of the content before you decide.

Hi Brendon. I’m super keen but waiting on my pre-membership survey and fee to process - is it possible to add my name to the list while that’s going through? Hopefully it’ll be done by the weekend.

Thanks Brendon

I’ve added you to the list

Cheers Brandon!

Hi James,
We sent you an invitation to join yesterday via email. Sometimes they end up in spam, so it might be worth checking there. Let me know if you need any help.

Oh thanks Karin - nothing in my spam unfortunately. Maybe send again?

Not sure how to add my name but I’d like to join please. Just became a member.

I have added you.
See you on Sat!
