1 hour of help CNC cutting

@CNCtechs @CNCers @BigCNCers

Reaching out to anyone who can help me cut 2 sheets of 12mm ply into basic shapes. No more than 1 hour of work.

We are looking to get items cut as soon as and can pay cash to whoever can help facilitate the machine use.

Thanks,

I’ll be using the mini CNC later today, can walk you through the steps as I do them then give you a quick hand getting yours set up if you want

It’s not 100% the same as the big CNC but very similar as far as I know

No payment needed, although I’d take a pint from birdhouse if there’s one going :+1:

Thanks for getting back Sean, are the mini CNC machines big enough for 1200mm x 600mm sheets of ply? I am going to struggle tonight as I have a meeting after work with a plastic mould supplier, then I’ll be cycling home after building merchants are shut to get the ply..
That initial set up is exactly what we’re after, and of course a pint in return!

Nah way too small for that unfortunately, it’s the same software setup though so it’s a helpful intro to the big cnc

I’m away this weekend but I’ll be using the mini again at some point next week probably Monday if that’s any help

Niall - it would help to know what you have prepared- do you have an SVG? A vCarve file? As you are cutting through, best to also have a sacrificial sheet the same size or larger. 1 hour sounds optimistic for 2 sheets (file prep, set up, clamping, etc. and clean up). A donation of £40 or so to the space for CNC (e.g. for getting new endmills) would be good incentive.

Afternoon Dan,
Thanks for getting in touch, we use Shapr3D for all of our modelling - what file is it best to export to for the CNC machines?
Absolutely agree, we will be there to prep and will spend time cleaning thoroughly afterwards also!
Yes of course we can donate that amount to the space.
Please let me know if this is something you personally can help us with!
Thanks,
Niall

Full version of Shapr3d can export SVG. We don’t have Shapr3d, so the SVG files would need to be done by you.

Just to confirm- these are straight cuts, not profile or 3d carving?

With cut outs from sheet, there would be tabs - connectors to hold the cutout shape so it doesn’t fly around - I.e. small sections not cut. Those would need to be cut out with sharp chisel after.

I can’t come in this weekend. I might be able to Monday - possibly 11:30am or later. Others inducted on big CNC might be available this weekend (?)

You can actually add tabs in vcarve really easily, I found it much more straightforward than having them as part of the vector file

Yes! Absolutely! Tabs should be added in vCarve - don’t do that in SVG!. Point is that those will be added and after CNC completes will then need to make those cuts by hand (4-6 per piece approx 4mm wide by 2mm deep).

Hi Dan,
Yes full version - we will export the files and have them ready on phones to send / email as required.
Yes - 3 axis cutting only and we will be prepared to cut and sand the tabs.
My co-founder Ed can join you Monday.
Thanks, I’ll DM contact numbers and look forward to meeting you!
