I would like to bring more people into the running of the workshop, as I have said many times is is not good that it has become a two man show .
So I am proposing two new roles.
1 surport tech backup pool of experience people who can also give inductions.
2 woodshop surport. A new role for people with less woodwork experience but want to help and have other useful skills , Eg admin and technical auhership ect
It would help people feel included and give them a sence of owernership .

4 categories of wood shop roles!? What is wrong with the current woodtech and support-wood tech roles? this seems like bureaucracy for the sake of it.
Can you not make people feel involved with the current setup?
3 roles
So there’s a place for kean and useful people who don’t have the experience to give inductions
It’s about enabling members to get stuck in and help
Can they not just be members? Why does everything need a title?
If members don’t feel empowered to get involved in the organisation of the wood shop without being approved to join a special clique, that’s a problem.
It’s even more a problem if they have to join a special clique to be empowered.
I don’t see how this helps anyone feel empowered and in practice builds more divisions.

Personally I don’t see any need for all these sub roles. There will be no regular members left!
Just the existing two tier system leaves a bitter taste in my mouth. No more hierarchies please.

Ok how about full space wide roles,
And if no regular members left what is the problem. Total engagement
We sort of already have that though - ‘Member’
All members should feel they have the empowerment to help in whatever way they like, And roles should be actively encouraging members to be involved in organisation of their spaces.
If members don’t feel engaged (and I’m willing to hear they don’t) we need to ask the question as to why? These are issues about decision making and agency of members that the governance working group is thinking about at the moment.
I don’t think a new role will help and can only further stratify the membership if that is the problem it’s trying to solve.

I think what Joe is saying is that it is only himself and Mark who are running the Inductions, it’s a long list! Full to the brim. That’s hard & takes dedication. In their free fulltime working week. They probably buy the biscuits too! (unlikely tho😃)
Thankfully they have other experienced woodshop members to support them now for (I hope) each session. Thanks to those members 🖒
They need extra help with admin etc. cus they’re doing above and beyond as it is. I think it’s a fair request for this induction and may not be needed for other inductions.
Gifting their
Gifting their expert knowledge to us is very much appreciated.
So, I’ll do the admin.
It won’t empower me, it’s a pain in da b*m!
I wanted to share this link - maybe a good resource for woodshop. https://www.instructables.com/class/Table-Saw-Class/?utm_source=classesNL&utm_medium=email
Also a suggestion for inductions:
45min - 1hr safe tool usage inductions.
Add another wood tech and split sessions between 3-4 wood techs per month.
Arrange support techs to run weekly/fortnightly wood working workshops to provide newly inducted to learn how to use tools to make a finished item. Possibly themed to suit the use of each tool or few tools. Those adequately experienced using woodshop tools won’t need a workshop but quick access to use MS woodshop
For example theme: Picture Frame/ Mobile Phone Stand
Practice using: Router, Orbit Sander
