Woodturning shopping list

Here is the list of tools/accessories I am requesting for the lathe:

@tomnewsom here are the shopping carts if all is ok:

http://www.turners-retreat.co.uk/checkout/cart/

Also on the lookout for a thread protector, 25x2mm, but I couldn’t find one to fit. It would be like this but different thread: http://www.axminster.co.uk/axminster-thread-protector-910102

@woodtechs, consumables needed would be clothed back grit in 120, 180, 240, 320, 400
maybe sanding sealer if we can afford it - if not we can just say you have to provide your own finishes.

Great! Have you got somewhere it can be delivered to?

I’m happy for it to be delivered to me but I’m not going to make it down until after the end of this month so if it’s ok to wait a week and a half for them to be in the space that’s fine. Otherwise there might be someone who can get them there sooner?

my address is (personal info deleted! -Dermot)

Looking expensive?

Is there a cheaper way to do this ?

Could scrap the oval skew to buy at a later date.

Could put the 2 scrapers on hold until we start the face plate turning inductions.

Is this a good use for the best part of £300?

We should have some mechanism for deciding whether things should be funded from SLMS reserves, pledges or a mixture.

I agree, perfectly happy for this to be debated

Also could get Axminster HSS tools which from accounts I have heard don’t last as long but are cheaper.

I don’t think this is profligate to be honest, I’d imagined reasonable quality tools would soon rack up to a couple of hundred, and it’s best not to skimp on quality here. We have the funds at the moment and going for lower quality tools feels like a false economy.

@RichM for amounts like these the directors generally approve reasonable sounding requests. Large purchases would be put to the wider membership.

My father in law used to do turning but had to stop due to bad health. I’m sure I’ve got some random turning bits/finishes in my garage… will have a rummage once I’m back in the uk.

Sounds worth a rummage. When are you back?

I agree about good quality tools.

Running a pledge with match funding might be a way of judging whether this sort of purchase would be popular with the membership.

Seriously, money is not an issue. Our “strategic reserve” is full, and we are bringing in considerably more than our expenses every month. If there are any other tools that need £300 spent on them to get them working, just say the word.

Ok perfect

I agree about its a waste of time buying cheep tools , but we are still at the stage where people do mad things. See my , this is not a sanding block post .

I’d vote spend it, it’s how we’ll keep our members

Can we also look at getting a scoring blade for the table saw?

I could be wrong, but I think there are parts missing that make it work?

I vote we get them. For what it’s worth :blush::blush:
