Hey
The clean room is pretty dense with stuff at the moment.
We have freed up a tonne of space in the snug already, loads. Can people please not put anything in there for the near future, we need to turn it form a dump, into a storeroom, We can do this before rationilsing what is already in there. The exception being the personal project space on the left as u go in, read below
The Stick
There is a fair amount of stuff on the “way out” table in the clean room.
There are drawing boards there for the people who said they were interested @lewisss@boldaslove
There’s rolls of vinyl there for @StudioNelle
There’s a furnace there for @peter_hellyer
Guys can these be taken soon? thanks
There’s othere stuff there too, have a look.
Theres some remaining scaffold by the front door that Joe is taking, and a concrete mixer. We talked in space and since Joe kindly lent us concrete mixer to us, we would like to get him a hire van to bring home @joeatkin2
Joe can you ask for help if u need it to book van and get a driver if ones needed, thanks, mark said he would be free to drive it some evening if needed. There is plasterboard as well Joe that you were interested in freecycling
@Dermot got some stuff there too, dermot theres the floor polisher which we were going to try and sand floor with but didnt use in the end, and some other stuff belonged to you as well
The carrot
We now have a temp space for ACTIVE personal projects in the snug, on the left as u go in.
If you wanna leave stuff there put your name, username, start date and estimated end date on a tag on it, keep it neat. Don’t take the piss. I’m guessing whatever system we develop will be informed by how respectful people are of the space we create for this.
Once we rationalise the rest of the space in the snug, is likely we will have some more space for wood, metal etc if thats what SLMS choose to use snug for. Or it might give us freedom to start stage three on the first half of the snug??
@silkscreentechs realised last night that we need a box in which to dry screens coveted in light sensitive emulsion. Maybe we could commandeer a thin tall section of that bit of the snug for this purpose?
question for the makerspace, but we need to finish moving stuff out before we start moving stuff back in.
If they want this to happen sooner then help sorting out the snug is welcome
Things to do
1
lots of cabling in there that Joe atkins is going to sort, some going to neighbours…he will need help dealing with this and the emotional impact of leaving stuff go
2
there is alot fo computer stuff in there, whats needed, where lets move it out, lets get rid of whats broken
3
building materials…how many shovels do we need, do we need hard hats, no one used them previously
4
clips for remaining shelving units sourced and shelves put together (maybe used for personal proj space instead of table
5
textile stuff sorted
6
paint stuff sorted, what do we need
7
tools sorted, alot of these can go to messy for example where I think alot need to live.
so helping messy techs @Dermot@peter_hellyer Who are techs charge of messy area ?
I don’t wish to barge in but I did all this research before and made a list before, would it not help to refer back to this rather than doing this work all again, I spent a lot of time talking to folks who do this professionally to figure things out that would be best practices from their experiences.
I think Pip mentioned the discussion for the screen print area includedthe idea of using lights to create a darkroom mode in the messy shop. My reservation for this is the messy room includes other activities apart from screen-printing. If I’m exposing a screen and someone else is in the messy room working on the ban saw and or laser cutter, other screen printing in progress it may not always be practical to switch lights to darkroom mode.
Which is why I posed the question of having some sort of dark room in the snug as it would only need a shelving system for screens to sit in and dry on the wall and to me anyway seemed like a pretty easy solution to exposing and drying screens.
The idea wasn’t to undermine the research you had collected prior just an extension.
Actually I have no idea what that is about, all I was saying is I did research that identified the need for things like a drying cabinet in March/April this year, it might make sense to read that as it was a write up of what I was told by a professional.
Ok, well I’m not sure what your saying either. You responded to Pip’s question re the use of the snug and I responded to you to explaining why after your research and consulting with professionals the silk screen techs were interesting in the snug to be used to dry screens after exposure.
If there is additional info I should be aware of, it would be great if you could provide me with the link and I’ll have a read or maybe you could email me the extract.
I’m in need of a shovel! What are people’s thoughts on me liberating one from the snug for use outside of the makerspace. To be used for skatepark building!!
none of those shovels are belonged to the space,
but someone somewhere does own it.
They are pretty indestructible so I would say borrow away, just bring back and if u could clean the concrete off one while u are borrowing it u will be doing someone a favour.
