Utilities and insurance (research for uni)

Hello everyone,

Sorry to disturb you with such matter but any help would be super great. I am studying social entrepreneurship at Goldsmiths University and I am doing an exam where I am requested to do a business plan. I got super into the makers spaces idea and I am making my exam about a wood workshop with some masterclasses where I teach the local community how to make things.

Of course I will need to figure out how much the cost of running the machinery will be and I would like to ask if by any chance you would be so kind to tell me (roughly) how much are the costs of operating the wood machinery on an average month.
This is pretty much the machinery I’d love to include:

Table saw
Surface planer and thicknesser
Bandsaws
Wood lathe
Morticer
Disc and belt sander
Scroll saw
Whetstone sharpener
Pillar drill
Mitre saw
Router
Mitre trimmer
Couple of mobile extractors (Henry style)
Extractor unit

I know that it is complicated to figure out as it is quite specific on members’ usage and hours but a min and max usage estimation based on your experience would help a lot.

ALso I believe that there are quite a big chuck of costs will go in insurances.
I figured I will need:

Public liability insurance
Building and content insurance

Would you provide any info on that by any chance?

I know I am asking a lot but it is for a good cause (exams for uni and, hopefully one day open a meker space of my own). Until then I plan to come and use your space soon so I can get more familiar with machinery and get to know the people.

Thanks a lot in advance and see you soon. Hopefully this Wednesday.

All the best,

Giona
