Urgent advice needed

Hi guys, I have to seal some garden light , silicon is not sticking because is dump and dirty
Will resin works?

@joeatkin2?

He is not answering the phone… :frowning:

This is @dermot’s day job isn’t it?

Water coming through the gland at the base? Or through the top?

My experience is that sparks often don’t tighten outdoor glands up enough, or put sometimes two wires through and create a figure of 8, then silicone it (which is okayish, I guess).

If it’s the gland, then maybe dig the fitting out, clean it, tighten, and whack in silicone for good measure?

Silicon is not sticking at all… digging them out is not an option for James because It means redoing all the wiring… (Not enough slack in the of wire)
plus, any trick how to take the Damon screws out? Some are rock solid

Some of those lights seem designed to never be opened, sadly. WD-40 of course…but I don’t doubt you’ve tries that.

Something water based…thinking out loud here, but may lead to a better option: a couple of cm of fast set plumbers mortar would set waterproof, and absorb the moisture already in there. Doesn’t feel quite right.

Well all will be useless if I can not open it… ever tried to drill out stainless steel bolt with a hand drill and no selection of bits? Is … hard…

Thanks a lot anyway

You could try some of the roof sealing mastics which are designed to go onto wet things.

Or a plumbers sealant like LS-X but that would be expensive for a big area like this.

Any idea how to carry on?

The issue of easing very tightly bound SS machine screws without wrecking the heads before they shift would be very useful to have an answer for.

It looks like the screws are shearing off nicely! Can you rotate the top by 45 degrees and drill and tap a new set of holes to refix it?

I tried, you can see one in the picture, but I can not drill the pilot hole required… I can’t get it in to easy it out

They are almost universally useless in my experience.

Yes and no… I’ll do that for the one that is open and pray, but is not ideal, is almost impossible to get a proper seal again with landfill and hand tap… a mm off and the seal will not seat how is supposed to and will leak
