Sunday 26th March 2017 Spring Clean Continues

We’ve got AatroPi guys in today, so they’ll appreciate the cleaning done so far.

Also expecting a visit from some Austrian Makerspace makers…

I’m planning on working on the outside areas: bike rack, garden and surrounding hard standing areas.

Weeding the front wall, cleaning the windows…etc

If there’s time then Messy will get done attention.

I’ll be there from 12:30.

Anyone up for this?

@conomara anything we need to know to finish bike rack?

I could possibly make it down around then, although trains are madness.

I’ll see what time I can make it

On the way in now, need to sort out the lathe area

I can’t help today but can do some bits a pieces tomorrow.

Messy space is far less messy, I even put a shelf up!

Can I double like?

Just nipped into the space to do a couple bits - amazing job everyone, huge improvement all round!

One thing I noticed a couple of weeks ago but forgot to mention: in the woodshop the first aid kit and the fire extinguisher are behind the wood bin. The bin can’t really go elsewhere, and its current placement seems sensible: where can we move the extinguisher to?
(On a wider spring cleaning note, should we do a once-round to check all the kits and extinguishers are accessible now everything is reorganised?)

And more generally none of the fire extinguishers are in a known good condition, they need testing / refilling.

best place for that fire extinguisher is at the end of the lathe on the floor next to the doors. i will move it there later on if you don’tsee this message

Normally extinguishers are put by fire exits.

Another question I realised is what extinguishers we have and need, not every room needs one.

there is one by the fire exit in the workshop, ed is talking about the other one

For the fire extinguishers, we need to do a materials and risks assessment, need to make sure you have the right types on hand for the materials and equipment in an area - have we done one previously ?

I think woodshop is clear on the type of extinguishers they need.

Getting a yearly check is part of the plan with getting a certification company in for general means of escape stuff, and suggestions about snug use.

I’ll like your double like, making a meta like

Yes, as part of the Woodshop Induction we all know where the fire extinguishers are and what the 2 types do. @joeatkin2 mentioned a Fire Blanket to be included in the space.

Just a thought on this - for the electronics area, we should have a co2 (non water based at least). Not sure what’s there at the min ?

What I was saying is that people assume fire extinguishers are needed more than they are, there are very few fires where fighting it will help more than put you at risk, the estimates are about 20-30 seconds is the most you should spend fighting the fire before getting out in my work training.

There should be a Foam or Dry Powder extinguisher for the workshop, CO2 for the laser cutter.

The electronics bench is a complex one because technically a CO2 only kills the fire, if the source is still there it will reignite once the CO2 dissipates, so another type would be better, possibly dry powder, but then it makes a huge mess.

The other thing is that every area doesn’t need it’s own fire extinguisher, only areas that are high risk, not even every room needs one. I think waiting for the company to advise would be best.

Yes,
When we get our Fire Risk Assessment it will highlight what we need & where.
