Spar gauge

Having (like half the woodworkers of the world) become hooked on Lost Art Press’ furniture books, I thought I’d make it easier to mark out octagonal sticks by making a spar gauge.

This was something originally used to help make spars and masts for boats and is a pretty simple tool - it also works on tapers, so you can get the taper right on the square and then octagonalise it (which is how I prefer to work, the other option being make an octagon first and then taper everything).

This is a bit of maple I got out of a firewood pile - some initial shaping and holes bored, I’ll post an update when it’s progressed more.
