I want to cut down some 0.9mm sheet metal, do we have the resources in the Makerspace? The smallest dimensions are a couple of corner radii (10mm), most of it is straight edges though. Thanks, Rory
There’s some shears in the space somewhere, but I couldn’t tell you where I’m afraid.
Jigsaw with metal bit will get through 0.9mm easy enough - it’s how I cut the metal ducting which is a similar thickness. Getting super straight lines is tough though, usually comes out a bit more ‘organic’…
If you use the jigsaw a little bit of cutting fluid along the cutting line can help
Another option is an angle grinder with a slitting disc fitted. Cut on the waste side of the line then fit a flap disc and grind back to the line.
Or have them laser cut. I’ll be sending of an order this week I expect and you can piggy back on mine if you’re not in a hurry.
What metal is it Rory? I have a decent aviation shears here now. It does leave small teeth marks but are easily filed n sanded.
It’s aluminium, Jackie that would be amazing if I could borrow your shears! Where are you next planning on being in the makerspace?
Hi Rory, will definitely be there Monday from early morning and might be there late sat afternoon. Is that ok if you’re not on a timeline. Shears perfect for cutting .9mm aluminium.
Ok thanks Jackie! I’m going in this evening to do some work and might be there tomorrow afternoon. If not, I’ll be there monday morning! thank you!
Cool, see you Monday so. Will be there 9/9.30. I’m working on articulated aluminium wings on hearts, cardboard prototype works well, just got to translate, I love a bit of problem solving!
