Sharpening kitchen knives

Hi all, ive just had my basic metalworking induction and im looking to get some use out of the space, ive been meaning to sharpen some of my kitchen knives and thought i could make quick work of it using the belt sander in the metal shop.

First I just wanted to make sure that its fine with everyone for me to bring in a couple of kitchen knives, as i could see how that might be a problem.

Provided it is ok, i also wanted to ask if anyone would be to give me some guidance with this, the knives i have are pretty cheap and old so i dont mind ruining some of them, but i definitely want to get the proper technique down so that when i eventually buy some nicer ones im not messing those up.

Thanks,
Ibraheem

The best tool in the space for knives would definitely be the Tormek, I remember speaking to a member who raved about how good it is for kitchen knives - plus there are jigs etc. that’ll let you get the bevel just right without trying to eyeball it like on a grinder

I believe Tormek inductions are handled by the wood lathe techs ATM
