Reprographics dept

I’ve got the A1 plotter and A3 laser out and set up alongside the laser cutter.
Both need a little work.

The A1 gives a “I’m not running very smoothly” error code, which is no surprise because it’s been on the snug floor for 4 months. It needs opening up, cleaning and probably a little lubrication.

The A3 seems ok in itself, but it only connects via ethernet so I need to sit down and get it configured properly. It’s all out of Cyan, but we can probably still print makerspace red with the magenta and yellow it’s got left

Both machines are connected to an old windows XP PC, which I’ve put Avast free antivirus on.

I’ll be in the space probably one evening this week to finish off.

Quicker than that
We are go. You can now print A4 and A3 in full colour (although the Cyan will run out any day now).
The A1 is a bit streaky - as is the way with inkjets when they’re not used for a year. It should clear up a bit with use. Failing that, they can be gently cleaned with a wet cotton bud.

Nice work!

Oh, and the monitor needs three small screws to attach it to its stand. M3 at a guess.

This makes me very happy! Well done Tommen.

Tho’ thinking about it I had assumed printing was effectively paused until paper doesn’t pick up a slight damp, ie. the back is lined and/or fresh air ventilation with positive pressure in phase 1.

Yeah, paper does feel a little damp. Seemed to work well enough though. The laser in particular heats the paper up as part of the process, so you get a drying effect for free

Next jobs here are:

  1. Buy some A3 paper
  2. Fix the pick-up rollers in the main drawer.

Don’t buy paper and store it in the space its too damp

@Rory_Yeung - I see from twitter you had some success refreshing the reprographics dept. Good work!

I would not call it success, but I do feel like bringing in another system, may need to get a LP PCI LPT card for it though ( can you make a sentence out of acronyms alone )
