Hi @members
This feels like the sort of thing that we’ve discussed to death in the past, but I’m writing here to make a firm (and formal) proposal as to whether we buy one or not.
The state of play is that @frasco has had a shufti about in all the usual places and it looks like the damage to buy a Boxford lathe in reasonable condition, would be around £800 for a basic model up to £1200 for more bells and whistles.
An alternative option is to buy something more generic from from out east, which might be cheaper, but also might be more
A poll even followeth! (lets give it a week or so for opinions?)
- I want a Lathe, and I want it to be something with some pedigree (e.g. a boxford or something similar)
- I think making small bits of metal into slightly smaller bits of metal is awesome! but lets buy something cheap from China. Those guys make quality tools!
- I think turning metal is insane. Leave me alone.

A second poll for the extra keen, and those that care about cash.
- This is the sort of thing Makerspace should fund centrally.
- I’d be happy to pledge.
- Match my funding Makerspace! I’ll go 50/50
