Proposal for activity tool boxes

Hiya

Ild like to propose we have activity tool boxes in the space.

Tool box definition: a box, or shadow board, or bag that contains equipment for a specific activity. Clearly labelled.

Examples: electronic equipment (until the workbenches are ready), upholstry (pending activity approval), sewing (although the “box” may actually be the sewing table), welding(hmmm), bike maintainance(already in place), card making stuff, PPE, tolitiries (?), cleaning products, etc

[im cheeckliy adding ones that get suggested as we go]

Have I talked myself out of this idea? Or are their other examples want to add?

this could be a cool project for someone. it could involve making laser cut boxes and some laser engraving.

Makerspace is cash-rich but time-poor when it comes to stuff like this. Plastic toolboxes are < £10 so can easily be covered by the workshop budgets

It could be done as part of tool induction?

If you’re learning to use table saw etc, them making a box might cement the learning.

okay! absolutley aggree!

lets have short term easy solutions. buy some boxes and lable them.
long term soltion: replace these boxes with lovely ones made on inductions and blah blah.

Check with the various techs as to what they need.

I see you mentioned some potential future activities in that list too.

Yes I did. But they won’t get anything until they are approved. That goes without saying :blush:

i forgot PPE!

not an activity as such but it would be nice to have a box each for gloves, ear defenders, masks and goggles.

could we also pls pls pls buy a load of new masks? the old ones are gone or are filthy. can some one pls buy these?

SLMS will reimburse people for approved purchases. (I think new dust masks is a pre-approved purchase?)

There are already 3 PPE boxes? They get sorted… They get mixed up again…mixed is a bit useless.

Good point about PPE: it’s needed for specific tasks/tools, so needs to be near them?

Is a very cool idea, just one thing, if possible try to find the same boxes that we already have… Just To be all the same and all stackable safely!

Well the ikea box is 29 liters and Is 3.50£ with the lid! I should say let’s go for that but it’s your call @boldaslove
