Preferred Suppliers

Hey guys. I was thinking about some future projects and was wondering if we have set up deals with any suppliers of electrical and electronic bits (mainly electronic components)? If not, it could be well worth trying to set something up. Not a UKer so not sure how things work here, but could get up to 80% discount on things back in NZ (hugely dependent on what you were buying of course).

Something we need to think about.

Unfortunately the electronics is somewhat a ship without a captain at the moment.
I have been stolen buy woodwork and construction and Marco and courty both have extremely busy lives .

If you are experienced in the subject clear it with the gods of the makerspace and make it happen

Farnell, RS Components and Mouser come to mind as UK suppliers.

Anyone else? And what kind of stuff would we be looking for regularly?

Strikes me that a discount code for members to use would be good, plus of course a discount for the Makerspace.

Ah cool, didn’t know about Mouser. From my (hopeful) perspective, electronic components (ICs, passive components), tools etc would be good. I also thought that it might be good to try and get a deal with a PCB prototype manufacturing company as well. Texas Instruments could also be good to talk to as they can be very good (can give out free ICs for prototyping purposes [are awesome for elec eng students]). Getting a deal with a electrical company or a hardware store could be good for getting supplies and tools.

It really depends on what people are interested in doing.

microchip also used to give out loads of samples on demand to hobbyists. Not sure if PIC is a dirty word around here though.

haha. I don’t think it is PIC chips are great.

What do you want ?

Microchip owns atmel.

Some of the members are afraid of them . It’s a makespace thing …

Not 100% sure what you are asking about… or who you are asking?

I am happy to send out emails to companies to see if they would be willing to arrange something with us (if the gods are happy for me to do so). Would be good to find out if anyone else was interested in having a preferred supplier and what they might be buying.

I also happy to do some of the ship steering for the electronics side of stuff (with some support as I am new to this makerspace thing).

What sort of bits do you want to get ?

London still has a few component shops

Usually it’ll be SMD passive and active components - resistors, capacitors, LEDs, ICs.

I mostly use rapid electronics but Cricklewood electronics good for transistors
