I’ve been out for two weeks, and the pile in the woodshop has grown. This is not storage space. I do not like coming in to build space infrastructure only to find I can’t access safely because of a pile of projects. I have seen things here that have been here for longer than two weeks. Do not be surprised if it ends up in the bin.
@Nikita_Sav@Howard and more names but I don’t want to spend more time on this post
The plastic box is mine - I placed it there last night after picking the pieces up from Petra’s workshop. I’ll be in in about an hour and a half to measure out and double-check the species of the woods using the wood samples tray, then I’m removing everything I won’t actively be using for my project.
I don’t want to be taking the mickey - is this considered unacceptable use of the space?
All sorted and I’ve taken it home. I’ve left the box as @Sophia mentioned she’s on the lookout for plastic boxes for textiles - can remove that too if nobody wants it.
Nothing to do with me apart from someone put a steam box I made there.
Although it works ok the materials aren’t suitable so it will end up in the bin soon
Yes, other than the shelves that area isn’t meant to be storage. Though honestly, I’m less worried about your box than the other large objects cluttering the area.
for clarification: walkways/doors/fire exits need to be kept clear at all times. If you need to temporarily store something large, communicate to woodtechs, we will find a way to accommodate. What tends to happen is one project goes down, then others dump theirs next to it as it looks like a storage area. There are things in that pile that have been there for well over a month as well.
As promised, I have begun clearing out this space. @Nikita_Sav@MarcG@gunch@fran_wood_works maybe others, reminder and final warning that this area here in front of the workbench is not for project storage. It blocks access to the exits, light switches, finish/oil cabinets, circuit breakers, shutter e stop, fire alarm, and main tool control panel.
@Nikita_Sav your project was bumped into while trying to access this area last night. Please do not store projects in walkways.
@woodworkers have been doing a much better job of tagging active projects, thank you. Reminder that storage in the woodshop is intended for actively worked on projects. Storage space is very limited. If you are working on something large or that doesn’t otherwise fit in the normal storage area, it is imperative to actively communicate with @woodtechs so we can best accommodate.
@mbg Oh, sorry, didn’t know it’s a walkway. I was trying to finish it asap, but it was raining quite often. Today, i’ll be in the space, will move it somewhere.
Sorry for leaving it there, I had it nowhere to go and I cannot pick it up as I’m out of the country atm. It is free for anyone to pick up.
Dates approximately early 1830-1840s, flaming mahogany veneered pedestal table. May have seen King George IV. Outside of Europe that piece could be in museum. Needs reassembly.
Could you maybe put a sign on “please take”? I don’t know much people around woodshop to know if anyone can be interested, and it’s sad to see it destroyed.
Not quite that bad but cracked through at the joints (can see in the above pic). Another member and I were accessing the area behind there for infrastructure work and it was accidentally bumped into and tipped over.
@George_Sheppard@James_Atkin
Your strips of ash were all over the floor and in the passage. I’ve taped them up but the project tag is out by a month now. Please update the tag and put the strips in an appropriate place or come pick them up.
Gentle reminder that storage in the wood shop is intended for actively worked on projects only, and that the projects identified here are liable to be recycled at the @woodtechs discretion. @plietar ’s post here is a courtesy he does because he does not enjoy recycling members’ projects, even if they are non-compliant with the storage policy.
As a reminder, if you need extra time or space to work on a project outside the standard policy, it is your responsibility to reach out to @woodtechs who will be happy to accommodate.
Overflow of projects into non-storage areas is a safety issue that we are all responsible for addressing.
