Piece of elm and yew, woodturning?

Hello,
I left a square spindle of elm beside the lathe approx 4 inch or 100mm square by 200mm. Can’t find it, it was on the shelf. Also cant find a smaller yew spindle 60x60x100, it had a band of sapwood. Looks like someone cleared away the shelf, what happened to the wood?
