No longer tellies. Anyone fancy helping me undo this conundrum?
Have you tried telling it off and on again?
(I’m sorry, I have no help at all)
Your TV is broken?
Spend more time at your local Makerspace?
Dont replace it.
Learn to play the guitar instead.
But I already know how to play the guitar.
That, and I’ll miss my stories.
No problem what up with it ?
According to the service manual, general power board failiure. It stopped working in a storm, so I assume a few components have blown somewhere important. Whether it’s worth chasing round the thing to find out is another question.
I highly recommend this TV: http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/3915659.htm
Probably a cap , take a look at the bord look for cap’s with a distorted top .
I’ll bring it in either this thurs or next (probably next)
How big is it
32" It’ll go in and out of the back of my car happily.
Really think it was a capacitor that blew after a lightning strike?
No just in the 2016 they seem to go a lot
I see, sorry I could be confused but I think Pete’s TV died because of a lightning strike.
I presume that probably means it’s let the blue smoke out of one of the ICs and it irreparable?
Thoughts?
Depends if it ha a vdr
Yeah, I think this is the case. Just thought it might be worth having a tinker inside to see the extent of any damage.
It does have a seperate power board than the main ‘telly goes here’ board, so maybe the damage is contained somehow. Worth a look inside anyway, or at very least a salvage of any nice components hidden therewithin.
If it was a direct lighting strike you would be bringing it in , in a bin liner .
It should have a vdr on the line and should meet emc specs for domestic electronics so if the surge was not to bad it will be a case of replacing the vdr and the fuse.
P’S note that I wrote this Europe spec back in the 90’s
yeah, by lightling strike, I mean surge. It’s more where the surge came in from, the Arial or the plug (it’s plugged into a functioning surge protector)
Surge protection is one shot .
