More Laser, Less Cash

Dear @members!

Just to let you know (although I’m sure some of you are aware already) at the last members meeting we all decided to trial the idea of making the laser cutter free to use (for non-commercial use)^ pending review at the end of the year.

The general feeling at the meeting was that we would like to reduce barriers to using the machine and bring it in line with all of the other equally expensive and fiddly tools in the space which we don’t charge for. There was also a train of thought that the overall amount of money that we were recovering from general tinkering using the per minute charge model was not sufficient to be worthwhile in the long run.

To be reviewed at a members meeting around the turn of the year, but go nuts!

Lots of Love.

^ ‘Commercial’ here is a wide definition which we don’t really have a good consensus on - but for now, this should be considered self-policing. In general if you’re manufacturing a bunch of things that you want to sell for moneycash you’re probably doing something commercial. If in doubt however, ask your nearest lasertech or director.
