MISSING - Digital Calipers (x3)

All three sets of digital calipers are missing. They each come in a black plastic box.

Could we:

a) Designate an offical place for them. Previously this was on the metal tech bench above the mills but the metal area storage shelves might be a better place (metal techs ?). They have not been returned to this spot and are nowhere to be found in the space.

b) If you know where they are, return them to the metal bench or shelving area.

I put all metal setting out and measuring equipment in the double size pidgeon hole.
There was a digital caliper there last time I was in.

ALL TOOLS SHOULD BE RETURNED TO WHERE THEY CAME FROM !!!

Digital calipers are a very expensive tool. Can’t believe we’re lucky to have 3! Please love this benefit that none of us have at home and put em back safely :raised_back_of_hand:

£8!

Ooooooooo, not a pleasure to measure I bet- non calibrated callipers - Lidl?

Applicance spare warehouse :joy:

I don’t think our calipers are much better than these. Good brands like Mitutoyo are £100 and we’d know about it if we had some!

A decent pair costs 80 squid or so, medium level entry so yeah 8 squid is interesting, does it measure up? Nah 8nuggets = squiggly maths!

Still guys n gals, they have measure, put em back respectfully :+1::straight_ruler::triangular_ruler::scissors::mag_right:

Pretty sure i saw a set by the drill bits in the woodshop. Next time i see any lying around I’ll be sure to return them.

The £8 ones are difficult to use (from experience) and i would have strong reservations about their accuracy, especially in metalwork!

Most of our are Aldi/Lidl verniers. So currently £8 ish, when they appear on sale.

EDIT: how accurate are they?

Accurate enough for woodwork - I have a set of Sealey which are in a similar price bracket and they are pretty consistent and well within limits for wood.

Cool, that’s good to know, there are some amazing bargains at Lidl/Aldi! Tks

It’s a ridiculous situation that I and at least one other member have to bring our own lidl digital calipers in because there’s 3 empty boxes plus one poundland job.

Actually I had 2 poundland plastic jobs which are alright to 1.0mm if you’re gentle with them. Until a bottle of super glue leaked and killed one. Still determined to revive it with super glue remover one day.

A quick look on Ebay from UK including postage (China a bit cheaper):

  • Lidl type £4 (appliancespares £11 Inc postage)
  • Lidl type plus case £9
  • Stainless steel £11
  • Thickness gauge £2 (China)

I have 3 I’m donating to the electronics area when I’m next in, it’s taken some time for the ones I ordered to come in from china. I did bring in 2 with me on thursday but I forgot about them.

These are just the extremely cheapo plastic 0.1mm accuracy ones, but they work fine.

I’ll grab some spare batteries actually as well.
