Lead free solder is about environmental impact, not health.
Not as nice to use. You get used to it though

I have read in several sources that lead-free solders pose a greater fume risk than lead solders, while being safer to handle in the solid state. If this is in fact the case, it would not be sensible to ban the use of lead solder on the grounds of the fume hazard because the risk is lower in that regard. At the least, evidence should be provided that lead solders lead to a greater fume hazard before they are banned on such grounds.
I am opposed to the banning of lead solder use because, as Joe said, that would essentially preclude working on old electronic devices in the Space.
Yes. This is why we need risks to be assessed.
Extraction of soldering fumes to the outside seems an extreme measure to me: we’re talking about a tiny amount…but that’s just my instinct, not evidence-based.
How about building a dedicated electronics bench with a place to solder and extraction built in ?
Tom when are you in next ?can you do me a drawing ?
1’’ mdf and a good pant or do you want them in blonde wood?
What is the budget?
Will do them after the kitchen
On the subject of the electronics bench… I think we have some of our nice ply left over we could use and buy some 2x2 wood… Some castors…
A half depth shelf under the work bench at the back and two above would make plenty of space… We could integrate power distribution on to one socket and put under shelf lighting…
With regards to soldering the main issues are:
Sorry if i build it i disine it . Am willing to lisern to your sergestions and take on bored other people’s ideas and requirements .
i will put some blonde ply in it and it will have overhead space for 1980’s size instruments. Plus power and rcd protection .
and lighting will be integrated.
Under storage will be there but i don’t know how what or where .
as for casters i maybe but i have an idea for a hover bench , let’s see how much time i have…
This attitude is not acceptable, this is a community space, if you want to do something it should be done with the consideration of the community not of what you want because you are making it.
This is not negotiable.
Its perfectly acceptable i am doing it for free and for the community .
I have to have some enjoyment out of it and building anything from someone else’s drawing is work .
I want to help and believe passionately in the idea of a community make space.but i am not setting my self up as your resident chippy.
I am willing to listen to everyones input but i am not to the extent that i might as well be going to work…
And lets put it to the vote.
WHO WANTS HOVER BENCH’S
PS you asked me to do it, and then told me the size and , then you specified the type and sizes of the wood and then the placement of the storage and where the lighting is to be put . Not to mention the shelf depth .
Did you ask the committee about all those things ? And as with the kitchen if you hate the end results i am no bothered if you get rid of them and make some you are happy with .
What does everyone else think about the look of the electronic workbench ?
