Laser JobControl Software

Hi all,

I did a fair bit of cutting last night and some took around 8-16 mins of cutting, I found on the longer cuts Job Control would crash once the cutting had been done.

This meant that the Laser did not “beep” finish and the extractor did not turn off.

a Ctr Alt Del and end of Jobcontrol process would not even get Jobcontrol to close, it just hung.

This would require a complete re-start of the Laser PC and also restart of the cutter as once JobControl re-started it could not establish a connection to the cutter.

Just wondering if anyone else had encountered this?

My findings is the software has issues in general.

Yes this is an ongoing issue, probably with the computer, but I have a new copy of the software here for us to try out.

I thought the computer had been upgraded from the first one? it did throw up some errors about memory when going through POST, that said it did just seem to be Jobcontrol that has the issues… lets see how the new Job Control pans out

Today it was reporting issues with one of the DIMMs on boot up so I suspect a RAM fault, new chips required if anyone wants to have a look.

The computer needs a clean, the ram and processor are caked in brick dust, this was causing issues when we did the laser induction.
I gave it a clean on Monday to get us through the induction but not well enough to fix it properly, was going to bring an air compressor over (unless there is one in the space ?)

Ugh, that computer was pristine and passed hours of testing with memtest86 last year.
It could have developed a RAM fault but being full of cement dust seems a more likely cause.
Such is the nature of the space at the moment.

It has ECC memory, it if reports that a single bit error was detected then that should not affect software as it can correct a single bit error.
The memory sticks do normally run very hot, there is a fan the blows over the memory, it needs the ram to not be buried in dust for heat dissipation. The drive bays fold down to get more access to the insides but you have to unplug a power cable.

I prefer a vacuum cleaner to compressed air. Compressed air blows the dust further into connectors and things.

Yeah, we lost the battle with the construction dust…

I’v removed two of the FB DIMMs, leaving it with 8GB of RAM. Please let us know if it reports “single bit error was detected” at boot or other issues. Detailed description and full error message are helpful.

Just a thought… If the PC is failing due to the dust, should we get the laser itself checked ?

The laser itself is sealed, and the laser techs check the exposed optics regularly.

I don’t think the computer is failing because of dust, I’ve seen computers caked in crap and never have an issue, I don’t think it’s that…

Getting the laser checked is a £600+VAT annual service which we don’t have money for… We could just get some compressed air and clean all the dust off but first we need to seal off the construction with doors and a wall.

As for the software, as @adamjpage mentioned the memory has been changed and I have also installed the updated JobControl X we were sent last week so we need someone to try it out.

No more memory error on boot, but JC still randomly crashes, even when not cutting (but connected to cutter)

It has the latest software, I would suggest digging out another computer and try installing it on there.
