Laser cutter donation/loan

Hi there
I have a laser cutter in storage that I havent used in a couple of years.
I need to move it out of storage and rather than sell it I thought I would see if it was something the south london makerspace would want (as loan or donation)
Obviously I would rather it was used and maintained rather than hacked, but i thought i would see what the response was first.
Its an a3 machine originally bought from hpc.
It is working but might need a new water pump. Its not really plug and play as It has been modified to run with linux cnc so would need a computer running linux cnc exclusively.
If its not needed then I would sell it for a nominal amount to someone willing to collect it themselves (sold as seen as I havent the facilities to set it up running)
If it is taken to the space I would help to get it up and running but am not able to carry anything so it would need a couple of people and a van to collect.
(I am a member btw)

I’d be interested if the space doesn’t want it.

Carl, thank you for thinking of offering it, that’s a good thought, I like.

I think the @directors or @lasertechs are the only people able to give you a def answer on this.

(They’ll see the message as the tags above will notify them. They may well be debating the logistics, implications of this as we speak - space maybe an issue)

In the mean time is there any further info you can give like make and model? I guess we can get all the dimension info etc from that.

And again, even if we don’t accept thank you for the amazing offer!

I would suggest Rich would be best placed to take this for his partner’s class rather than us.

Hiya,

If this ends up without a home (i.e., the space/RichM don’t take it), I would be interested in talking to you about buying it.

I’m a member of Maidstone hackspace, and we are on the cusp of getting a space.
We will very shortly be needing kit like this to get us going.

As I said, that’s only if others don’t want it

Hi Carl,

Thanks for your very generous offer. I think though that we really don’t have the space for another one.

Sounds like you’ve had some fun hacking it?

How well does the Linux CNC work in your experience?

hi
I am hoping to get it out of my space before 16th dec so am open to offers if someone can pick it up.

linux cnc works great once its all set up.
It takes a bit of work to get from an inkscape file to a gcode file with the correct laser on off commands but I had a good workflow worked out.
