Well in theory shutter access (key holder permission) is just a permission like the large but the process for shutter access as best I can tell when this came up before were:
You apply for access of your own volition.
Two key holders support your application who are not directors.
A director manually approves the application.
Since this year we’ve proposed or added:
Complete an induction into the space.
Do something substantial for the space such as an open evening.
As almost all of this requires manual intervention it’s probably not worth trying to systemetise this via the kiosk but maybe I’ve misunderstood your idea.
Although there is no reason a director couldn’t use the kiosk to grant the shutter access permission using the same functionality as for granting induction based permissions…
I think having a proper sized screen is important for usability, not everyone has great eye sight, although this screen is just what I donated.
We have talked about changing the screen for a Samsung Tablet which @naxxfish was willing to lend.
Ideally in future it will need to get larger to accommodate printers etc, so I am not sure making it smaller is the solution, if we’re concerned about the sight lines, maybe we need to move it by rearranging the rest of the space to accommodate it.
We’ll, yes, a screen people can use. But a lower visual impact, and improved sightlines. Simply moving the existing screen/angling it might even work. I’d have thought this would be possible where it’s sited now. The photo printer itself is a small footprint
Perhaps unrelated but any chance of a sensor to monitor shutter position with a notification icon, if that’s not too difficult or controversial?
Perhaps the space log icon could be green for open, red for shut? I know you’re supposed to be able to work your way back on the log but it’s not ideal.
I’d strongly support the payment idea as I rarely have any cash with me. I think it would be quite easy to implement without increasing payment processing costs to the space.
Since all members have a Direct Debit, and GoCardless supports variable payments, all you’d need to do is:
Touch tag
Select a payment category e.g. lasercutter materials
Enter an amount (pre-defined amounts can be offered in the future)
Confirm you want to pay
Amount gets added to a running total of additional payments attached to your account
Additional payments get added to the subscription amount, and it all gets paid in one transaction at the end of the month
