I would like to give my raspberrypi a static IP, avoiding collisions with the dhcp/infrastructure devices.
Unless it’s changed substancially there is no range, but IPs can be reserved for specific MAC addresses, your pi should be emiting a mDNS hostname (hostname).local i.e. raspberrypi.local.
Using this you should be able to have DHCP and also access the Pi.
Thanks this solved my issue, well, it pointed out the problem - this time I had used retropie installation image and that has ‘retropie’ hostname. doh.
Thanks again!
Hi EN
There are current issues with mDNS due to some substantial changes which have been made – I’m planning to get to the space today to address these.
Happy your problem got solved, let’s chat if it persists.
Kind regards,
Jonathan.
Hi EN and all
I’m in the process of simplifying much of our network and so there have been addressing changes, and will write something up in Infrastructure shortly. (In brief, merging the wifi and wired LANs into 10.0.4.0/22, previously just wifi).
I’ve allocated a static block and put up a “peg-dhcp” board in the space if you’re doing wired networking without the overhead of proper DHCP.
Kind regards to all,
Jonathan.
