Internal events calendar

This came out of last night’s meeting.

As we become more busy, it’s becoming more important to know what’s happening in the space. eg: If you want to do some Laser Cutting, you need to make sure there’s no induction session planned for the same time.

We currently have a public-facing calendar on google, which also shows up on the main website:

(note that you have to add “Public Event” etc. to the beginning of the event description for the tags to show up)

Question

Do we add all events to this calendar? Meetups, inductions etc?

Or do we manage a separate “internal” calendar?

From a simplicity and transparency perspective, I think it would make sense to put everything in one calendar. It’s probably good for prospective members to get a full sense of the activity going on. Is there a “members only” type tag that could be added to events like inductions or anything else that’s deemed “internal”?

Yep, that’s already supported

Because of a limitation in the code, you should avoid events like the Members meeting being put in as repeating events, because there is no easy way to figure out if a repeating event repeats next week or next month, so it assumes it’s next week.

This is why on a Monday it will show the members meeting as tomorrow (Every Tuesday), but actually the event is a month away for example.

The fix is to just manually copy and paste one off events every month, but I suggest you do this monthly, as it will end with the last few items showing Members Meeting.
