## Details

An industrial singer sewing machine from the first half of the 20th century.
Capable at sewing through thick fabrics, and sometimes the metal of the machine itself.

## Condition Notes

2nd hand, the table is slowly being eaten by the leather but it’s fine, the leather seems to be in good condition. Temperamental but hard to break.

## Induction and Training

Please do the industrial induction first.
You don’t have to be afraid of this machine.

## Maintainers

@Maz
and probably some other [@textilestechs](https://discourse.southlondonmakerspace.org/groups/textilestechs) but Maz has fixed it before and can fix it again
(Note: The following is effectively the contents of the induction process, if it exists)

## How To Use

Turn it on at the plug
Turn it on at the motor
press throttle and hold on

### Before Use

Ensure the sewing area is clear of debris, roll up sleeves a bit, tie back hair.

### During Use

Keep fingers away from the needle, especially if unconfident.
If you do injure your fingers remove your foot from the pedal and turn the machine off at the wall and fill in an injury form if you don’t need medical attention first.

### After Use

Tidy up the area, turn off machine and turn off at plug.

## Risk Assessment

Identify risks
band on back of sewing machine goes at speed - could catch dangling things or abrade something
needle punches with force into skin or fabric - can damage skin, or cause injuries when needle shoves into metal - also could shatter needle into eyes

State control measures
making sure people tie hair back
making sure people are aware of the power of the needle and the weakness of the flesh
if people can’t easily take the needle out of the metal notify @Maz who will deal it the next weekend
to limit danger from needles, instructing users to notice when the needle bends

### Maintenance

Maz checks it works every now and then or when notified
