How not to do it

Just bought myself a new set of chairs for my flat, and having had good luck with secondhand furniture lately (and realising they were cheaper than IKEA as well as looking nicer) I bought a set of four off eBay.

So far so good - they arrive, one back needs a minor repair which I’m more than happy to do. Everything ok in fact until I sat down with my folks for dinner and discovered the worst furniture repair I’ve yet seen.

For those struggling with my photography or simply disbelieving their eyes, yes - that is two sticking plasters shoved into the joint so it wedges shut and then a bit of brown filler smeared around the joint to hide the unstained tenon which now won’t slide home. This has been done on three of the four chairs.

Next time you look at a project and think you’ve done a crap job, remember.

Someone is doing worse and patting themselves on the back.

Yeah once I’ve extracted all the sticking plasters and glued them all back up I think they’ll be great!

I’ve seen a Rizla paper packet used for exactly the same thing.
