Help with Wordpress

Hey all,

I am trying to build a website on wordpress, is there someone experienced that could give me some tips?

Alternatively, can someone recommend a professional?

Thanks,

Clem

Hi Clem - I’m pretty experienced with WordPress - with the caveat that there are a lot of different “flavours” of Wordpress depending on the editing package you add on top.

Professionally, I use Elementor to edit within Wordpress (https://elementor.com/features/wordpress/) which adds a lot more features and gives more design precision. You do pay extra for that though.

Happy to try and help - any particular issues?

Hey! Thanks for offering.

What I am after is a static website for my company, nothing complex appart for a form giving access to a download. I have worked on wordpress before and I am confident I could figure it out however, I don’t have much time to put towards making the website.

So I am looking either for advice on what to use to build it rapidly or for a professional to build it for me. Are you at the space sometime soon?

If you know html and css, use one of these, they are free. https://html5up.net/

edit: https://html5up.net/fractal this one seems to do what you need maybe?

Is this an alternative to Wordpress?

This seems like it could be much faster to set-up. But this has no fancy plug-ins I assume

You can’t really get much quicker than wordpress! Just pick a suitable template and add the content. I do recommend Elementor as it makes editing much, much quicker - but you would need to paid for version to access forms.
If that’s not an option you can use the basic WordPress with WPForms plugin added - then use their lead magnet form template which gives you a form and to give a link to a pdf when filled in.

I’m happy to help - but not looking to take on the whole project.
I’m afraid I’m not likely to be in the space until around the 31st as I’m away next week. I’m at home today if you wanted to chat via Zoom though?

Its a basic website, I run mine with a repository on GitHub and added a form for contacting me via formspree which redirects on my email… and paying for a domain on hover.com. Works perfectly for my needs, unsure what complexity you’re after though …

Quite simple for now but I might be looking to increase complexity in future. Otherwise it would have been my pick

A zoom call would be great, I am home too, what time works for you?

How about 2?

I sent you a link via message

i should have said sooner but now seems somewhat appropriate. absolutely love your site. it has that mix of simplicity and beautiful execution. ive been focused on webdev space quite intently lately and nearly everyone chucks these huge frameworks and engines at things that don’t need it. this has everything it needs and nothing more.
