This is for my daughter’s GCSE art project. She needs to create a frame to house a 102cm x 28cm clear acrylic panel (2mm thick). This will be displayed in landscape orientation. She will paint on the acrylic using glass paints to resemble a stained glass window and then place LEDs on the backboard to create the light effect.
We will have 4 pieces of wood already cut to size plus. But will need help creating a rebate to hold the acrylic, create the mitre joins and then join the frame together. Is there anyone who can help guide her? She is keen to learn.
Complete the basic woodshop induction and go about the task with hand tools. We have rebating planes that can do the job and it is very satisfying when done by hand.
Complete the basic woodshop induction, the hand and table router inductions and do it with power tools.
Beyond getting inducted, there will be people around to help guide and assist, myself included if I have the time.
I don’t really use the woodwork area but @Riggerz is great at things like this.

you would need to become a member of makerspace to use the wood workshop, you can sign up via our website, pop in for a tour or visit us for one of our open evenings- the next one is Wednesday 19th between 7-9pm (and every other Wednesday after this)
There may be members who might be able to offer some time to help but it’s unlikely they could accommodate both you and your daughter in the space. Members must be over 18 but you would be able to bring your daughter along as your own guest and she could work alongside you under your guidance.
