I’m hoping to make some lampshades and desk lamps from dry gourds, on the off chance, are there any members who work with gourds before?

That exactly what I was thinking, awesome title, lol
If we apply some logic I would think the best idea would be to avoid sources of heat so look at low wattage, LED bulbs and look to reinforce the area where the bulb holder meets the gourd. I would also try to make sure they are very dry, damp flesh and electrikery are not a great match
