Fact Pasty

Just for a bit of fun with the new membership it’s easy to pull figures about the membership and I thought this might be interesting:

As of right now, Tuesday 20th September 2016 at 20:52:12 BST we have 136 active members who have paid in the last month (36 days), or have been granted memberships.

That is out of 402 people have signed up on the membership system, suggesting they were in the process of joining, but only 287 (71%) of those ever setup a Direct Debit with GoCardless. To be fair this includes a good number of duplicates and a couple of triplicates or more.

Sadly that this all suggests 115 (29%) people failed to get from signing up to setting up a payment, and 151 (53%) went on to setup a payment but it failed or they cancelled it.

Getting in the door

On a more positive note however, we’ve issued membership tags and granted door access to 121 members, 94 (78%) of whom are active at present, leaving 27 members (22%) who’ve left since being issued a tag.

So, it’s probably time to order some more tags, because 42 (30%) members don’t even have a tag or door access.

Becoming a keyholder

When it comes to keyholder/shutter access 65 (48%) active members have access, while unlucky for some, 13 (9%) members who had keyholder access have left and are no longer active members.

So it seems like getting keyholder access is a good indicator the person is around for the long haul!

Lasers

We’ve inducted 47 people in the laser cutter to date, with 40 (85%) of them still active members today.

3D Printing

Over on the 3D printer we’ve inducted 29 members, 25 (86%) are still active today, either that means about 85% of members who get either laser cutter or 3D printer inductions stay active members, or that members who join for these facilities stay about longer than those who don’t.

Beta Space

Of the 36 members who originally supported the Beta Space at 27-29 Norwood Road, 12 (33%) are still members today. But they only represent 9% of the membership today.

Thats all the facts I could put in this pasty, until next time!

These are awesome facts in a pasty.

We should try and do something about this though, no? Do we know the rates of fall / cancel? Could a more streamlined ‘set your payment up right as you register’ type thing increase the conversion rate?

It’s as good as it is going to get unless someone cares enough to do the work.

Technical clarification on the “pay as you register thing”. Does that mean pay when you register for discourse? Or am I muddling things up?

Speaking to a guy who registered a couple of weeks back today. He’s been following the chats on discourse finding out what’s going on. And came down today to check us out. After following discourse for a while and then seeing what’s going on onsite he’s now ready to make the plunge.

Nah, when you sign up on the membership system, you’re not required to set up go cardless right away, giving you time to go away and forget all about it which explains why there’s a bit of an odd conversion rate.

Discourse on the other hand is entirely seperate and what you describe is a very good thing.

Thanks for the clarification.
Yes, agreed, the current seperation of membership and discourse is good.

Agreed, I reckon we can probably improve things. But don’t know how. Or even where to start.

Solution may come with a pinch of salt and a dash of pepper.

Nah, it’s probably fine like it is to be honest, certainly not worth losing much sleep over, but maybe something else to look at when / if

Good news!
Where are they all?
How’s the graph looking?

148 members

157 members

Nine new members in a week seems a large amount, and at least sixteen in the last three weeks. Tom Newsom was telling us the other day that the long-term growth rate was a linear four per month. Have things taken a pronounced upward turn lately? I was just thinking they had, as it happens, even before you posted this, from the amount of introductory threads we seem to be getting.

It’s likely this is because we’ve passed the correction date where some members who were active we’re not showing, Tom estimated this to be as much as 8 people, only 3 were manually corrected.

I’m reconciling Gocardless with the Members list as we speak, cos I couldn’t get my record of joins/leaves to match up with the system. I think there are still some stragglers.

Yeah there maybe I just realised that this will be the payment_created action which doesn’t trigger membership, if that is the case then there are 5 more people onto that.
