Event: Sunday 18th June. SLRP Jam - Tourettes and Autism friendly session. 'Wearables special'

Grace, Femi and co are back this Sunday for a session based around wearables.

So: we need a couple of things:

  • the space to be open and presentable between 13:30 and 16:15

  • use of main tables in clean room

  • use of projector and screen

  • even better: members on hand with RaspPi/Python knowledge to lend a hand.

@Courty @hannahintech @emuboy @Iain9986 any of you around?

The blurb:

We’re delighted to welcome South London Raspberry Jam to the Space.

This session is based around wearables – from jewellery to bio-monitoring to tracking - and anything in between (and beyond).

This is a Tourettes and Autism friendly event, and suitable for all abilities - whether you’ve never typed a line of code or have created your own version of Minecraft.

It’s aimed at 9 to 15 year olds (with some flexibility). Siblings welcome - they often get drawn into the coding!

Any members are more than welcome to bring kids along

Grace is wondering if anyone with a working knowledge of the sewing machines will be around on Sunday as she has a project in mind to create a mobile case with Lilypad type devices sewn in.

She’s on the lookout for donors for Lilypads and conductive thread…

Hey @Dermot, I will be there on Sunday, and I can use a sewing machine, I can also be around for the session in general!

I just realised I’m not officially inducted on the space machines. I could bring mine from home though.

@textilestechs is the Janome out of action?
Missing a screw for the foot?
Any one know where it is?

Probably best bring your own, unless the status of the Janome gets cleared up before Sunday.

Hey Hannah,

Sorry I’m not sure I’ll be available to help with sewing on Sunday, I’m pretty behind on my own project timelines and will take advantage of the Sunday to catch up. Maybe someone from @textilestechs can step in.

Cheers.

Okay @StudioNelle! I have made something on my sewing machine today, and I should be fine. Even if I resort to just using mine! It would be nice if a textile tech is around though. Thanks for offering to help anyway

The old machine works very well and is set up and ready to go, however when I was at the space on Monday the other machines were out of action, sorry.
I can’t make it on sunday sorry

Just to add had a look at the Janome and moved the screw from left to right which has allowed the foot holder (which was in the sewing box attached to machine) to be stabilised. works fine.

The Anker 328 sewing machine also appears to be in perfect working order when tested manually. I should have a spare electric foot at home that matches this old style machine, I will try bring along Sat or Sun.

Located sewing foot 3 sewing machines in working order and ready for sewing.

Brilliant so clever!!!

Maxxed out returning from Newmarket with the makerspace made kites, I have a few inches of conductive thread in my box, and an idea to lasercut conductive ripstop nylon into circuit diagrams, so I’m keeping on this thread, but not possible until after the first week in July, sorry.

My youngest (the main football nut of the household) is not well so no games tomorrow. May well be about tomorrow afternoon so will pop in…

Will probably bring the older one with me too.

I’m sorry I won’t be able to be around today to help with the sewing machines - I already have plans from 2pm so can’t be much help

Just a reminder that this is on today in the clean room from 1:45 to about 4. If anyone’s in the space beforehand please have a check round and help make the sure the space is presentable for our guests.
