Morning all,
I’m doing some volunteering with an organisation that helps survivors of people trafficking into the UK to settle and find stability. Male survivors commonly want to find work as labourers on construction sites… and a key barrier can be the cost and hassle of getting hold of a CSCS card.
We’re looking for ways to lower this barrier by arranging a training course that would earn people a qualification needed for the card. Any willing members/friends qualified to deliver this training? Or any recommendations for a London training centre that delivers a valid course? This is not my area of expertise!
Also, we’re looking for people with experience of site work who could give practical tips and advice on finding labouring work in the UK - legally, and without being taken advantage of.
Any advice or offers of assistance gratefully accepted.
Cheers,
Tom
Right, this reply isn’t of much use…
But I also work with young refugees and this very question came up on Saturday.
So: I’m willing to put some time into this, but don’t have an answer. Will ask around.
You will need to get a copy of health safety and environment test.
Look at cibt.Co. UK
The book has all the questions and answers that may be asked on the test, there are about 45 questions in the test it is multiple choice
I think you get 20 minutes to answer them
You can review your answers if you have time left.
There are several test centres around London.
That’s Dermot - let’s keep in touch about this and share any useful learning.
Thanks Ian, that’s helpful.
I believe as well as the online HS&E exam, you have to have done a one-day course on construction site H&S and send your certificate as evidence. There seem to be lots of different courses on the CSCS card site - wondering if you (or anyone) has a specific recommendation for a course/trainer…
Not sure about training courses, I’ve had my CSCS card for over 9 years
now, so I just resit the test every 4 years.
Regards
Ian
i know my organisation provides access to CSCS cards for our clients, and I would expect that the JobCentre would support people to access it. I am back at work next week and can ask a couple of people then if that helps ?
Thanks Esther, that would be great!
