Cordless drill & Impact driver

I’m about to buy a cordless driver and impact driver and just thought some of you expert can help making the decision between a few options.

Many thanks in advance

I really like our 10.8v DeWalt ones. The drill is ok, but the Impact driver rocks.

The light weight is a real advantage when lying on your back fitting kitchen cabinets etc.

A proper tool shop will let you try them before you buy.

I think that it comes down to the amount of use you get out of it v cost and battery cost and not to forget that batteries often become obsolete quite quickly.

My brushless maketa is simply head and shoulders better than anything else I have used bur that is reflected in the price.

Higher voltage is normally better - increase in voltage allows for decrease in current, which is nicer on the battery and the other bits (and brushless is also better).

It really depends on what you want to do with it and how long you want it to last. I renovated my house. Initially I bought a moderately cheap drill. I had to drill quite a few holes (40-60mm) in some hardwood studs and well… magic smoke eventually started appearing. I replaced it with a AEG and it chewed through the rest of the holes and anything else I threw at it.

The big (aka expensive) companies have cheaper companies that they sell cheaper products under, so it might be worth buying from one of them (AEG - Ryobi and Homelite, DeWalt - Black & Decker [avoid], Makita - Maktec [https://en.m.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of_tool_manufacturers]).

But that does lead to one of the question I have been meaning to ask - if we have any deals set up with any suppliers - if we have one set up with a hardware store or a electrician store it might be worth paying a little more one of the cheap ones of the good quality brands.

After a bit of looking around taking in consideration all the tips from the thread and chat with @joeatkin2 & @stefanoromano I’ve got a few more options.

Which one would you pick?

  1. Makita

  2. Hitachi

  3. Dewalt a bit more expensive but still in my revised budget

Looks like a good price for the Makita. I’d go with that, personally.
