Can anyone help me with a faulty sound mixer?

Hi All,
Ive got a pioneer DJM 600 mixer (as seen below) and it seems as though there is a fault with the phono output. Currently I only get sound out of one speaker but if i swap the left and right phono cables, the sound alternates from both speaker, meaning the fault must be with the mixer.
If anyone can help or knows anyone who can help It’d be greatly appreciated, and I’d of course be happy to pay!

have a look at this try this :

" I decided to try decreasing the main output level which seemed a bit too hot by adjusting VR on the rear. It was, of course, set to full and when I turned it down (after a nasty pop) the output returned to both channels, no crackles no nothing, not even on the main fader, clean sound as far as i could tell…"

Is possibly be a faulty trim pot, in the pro sectors big consoles are sent back every now and then to change all ste sliders and pots.

I don’t think it can be a channel or pot issue as I’ve tried all the channels and the problem is still there. I just tried adjusting the main output level (which needs to be done with a screwdriver) and I discovered that it was very crackly and cutting in and out so im assuming the faulty connection lies there. It could simply be a dodgy souldering joint but It’s difficult to say

Are the other outputs OK? I assume it has balanced or TRS out as well? Presumably the main output level pot would affect those too. If they are OK, it could be as simple as soldering on the phono output jack or the jack itself. A cheap and easy repair.

The only other master output is XLR but i don’t have the cables or anything they’d plug into so i haven’t been able to test them unfortunately. The Mixer is for a domestic setup so Im only using the rca outputs generally. I’m hoping its just a faulty connection that can be soldered easily!

The back looks like this. It’s the master level Att. that is cutting in and out when turned.

If you are not in an hurry, Thursday evening we can take it apart and give it a look .

That would be amazing! I’ll bring it down next Thursday. Thanks for the help guys, I really appreciate it

What about the other phono outs (rec. out, booth monitor)? Are they working?

I think its just the left side of the master out thats playing up. both the booth and the rec out seem fine.

How about just using the rec out then? This is part of my restarter philosophy: use the workaround to avoid delving into desoldering/parts replacement etc. which risks leaving the unit worse off then when you started.

I’d be fine with that but the main issue is that going from record out means that certain functions dont work (balance etc.) that can be useful. The other issue is that i use a piece of hardware called traktor that converts mp3 from your laptop and allows you to play them on vinyl. Although Ive not tried to use it through the record out I’m aware that traktor can be temperamental and i’d rather try to fix the issue to avoid further complications down the line.

Sorry, I didn’t got that one.

OK, understood. You need one of the main outputs, so the monitor out wouldn’t work either.

So another possible workaround is to use the XLR outs instead of the phonos. This would require an adapter, possibly one that with a transformer to put out line level - often these XLR’s are at “mic” level. Does your manual say? If the XLR outs are at line level, you just need an adapter cable such as:

They are cheap enough (about £1) to try this first I think. If you plug one in, it will work or it won’t. It would not harm anything to try.

On the other hand, you can get into the mixer and try to find the phono output problem.

See above. Traktor presumably just wants a line level phono input, but there are lots of models so I don’t know if it would have a mic level input, XLR or otherwise.
