Big CNC Brief Guidance

Thank you - eventually the switching on and off did work. Maybe a good idea to leave the linux machine running as an interim fix?

Yeah I might add an instruction. This setup is on the way out so hopefully we don’t need to deal with that for too long.

@JoSchmaltz Do you need the Big CNC all day? I just saw you put a booking in when I was about to edit. I don’t have a big mission other than adding more tracks and cut updated clamps. I can entertain myself with other tasks though.

I can call it a day when you get here - if you let me finish my file! What time did you want to be here?

Sorry I was driving and didn’t see this. You were finished when I arrived so all good.

I believe the KVM at the big CNC is dead. I started firing it up the morning (tried all startup orders including Dan’s) and got this https://photos.app.goo.gl/3JDJetJPFpayehtC8a
I then did connect the laptop directly to the screen and it was all good - same with the Linux pc - all good. I hope it was ok for to check, but I believe the diagnosis is pretty clear.
I am currently working with the Linux machine and the CNC just fine.
I am happy to rewired the mous and keyboard to the KVM - and also happy to get a kvm and replace it? @CNCtechs?

Hmm very odd. I will have a look later or tomorrow.

I ordered this to the Makerspace (under my name) just in case it is the KVM: https://ebay.us/GRATKd
Please feel free to open. It should arrive Nov 26 to 28…

Hi @CNCtechs @dannz

I am back in the space with another attempt.

I’m drawing blank when attempting to set the spindle to the correct speed.

The device used set the spindle is currently flashing 00000. What should I do to correctly set the spindle speed?

Thank you

Turn spindle on and turn the knob below the flashing lights, speed should go up from 6,000 as you turn it.

Thank you. Yes I tried turning the knob but nothing happens?

Did you turn the spindle on using the button on Linux CNC?

Have you logged in to tool control and turned the eStop from off?

I’ve turned on the spindle using the switch on the upper left side (where all the switches are). Is there another switch?

Yes the super box is on and I am logged into the tool control.

The estop is off.

I do notice there are no lights for the ‘spindle’ on the super box?

Maybe post screen shot of Linux CNC. Did you press red eStop on screen and then the brown power button next to it? (I expect you did, but let’s work through every possibility). All I can think of apart from that is to check the breakers in the consumer unit above the 6 mains switches. And maybe try turning spindle mains switch off and on. If still not working, I’d turn it all off and start again while waiting for techs.

Ok I will give it a go. Thank you

You have to actually activate the spindle in LinuxCNC IIRC:

Then you can set the speed. If it is not told to be on, you won’t see anything on the VFD (speed control)
