Bicycle

So I got a second hand bicycle from a friend. There’s a little rust on there, tyres are flat, I think it needs a new chain too. Just needs some love.

I have no idea what I’m doing with a bike. Can anyone suggest/help/advise me what I should do. Theres a local bike shop that will do a basic service, is it worth me paying for that or can I do everything myself?

Theres nothing difficult.
Its all just cleaning and greasing bearings.
If you need bearings/parts they are available from the bike shop or ebay.
clean and Adjust the gears if it has some…
Same with brakes.
Its very simple mechanics a little common sense will get you a long way.

A basic toolkit with a few cheap specialist extra tools from halfords will be all you need.
A bike stand makes a big difference and saves your back.
I got one of ebay for the kids bikes for about £40 basic but it did the job.
The gear and c spanners are usually just a few pounds but you can get a full toolkit for a few tens of pounds.

With the number of members with bikes it might be worth getting a few bike tools.

I dont know how bike shops stay in business offering servicing as the work is so simple with a few basic tools. Anyone should be able to do this themselves.
