Bandsaw induction

Hi @tomnewsom and @unknowndomain, is there any chance one of you guys could run an induction on the bandsaw anytime soon. I was hoping to use this machine to part off some small aluminium section 1"x 1/2".
There may be others who can run the induction but you are the only two listed on the tool page.

Many thanks.
Jonathan

Hi Jonathan I’m afraid that is an out of date page, and we now have a much more rigorous process.

Unfortunately this means that bandsaw inductions are not happening yet.

The bandsaws firstly need Risk Assessments and then induction before they can be used.

@woodtechs are leading the induction process for the major machines. However we’re always looking for people with experience in risk assessment or tool use to get involved and share the load to push this forward.

That said perhaps one of the Wood Techs could operate it for you/supervise?

Yes, that’s a possibility.

But the saw still should still have an RA first.

Thanks @dermot and @unknowndomain for the response. Is it easy to complete a risk assessment? Does one of the wood techs need to do this? I would welcome the help or supervision if there is anyone offering it… But obviously the RA comes first.

How many do you need to cut? Your could always use a hacksaw…

I’d suggest using the smaller bandsaw for this in any case - your mileage may slightly vary as it needs careful attention to keep accurate.

I have about 30 sections to cut, I have a chop saw which can cut aluminium but thought I would be able to get a better finish from the bandsaw. I am trying to eliminate the need to tumble polish them post cutting…

The band saw won’t give you the best finish, its usually used to cut away the majority of the ‘waste material’ then you would use a mill or lathe to fine finish the cut.
