A couple of people mentioned that they would like to draw at MakerSpace. I think this is a great idea!
I propose a session on Weds evenings from 7-9. This would tie in nicely with the Open Evening and I will co-host when I can within this.
We don’t need much, here’s a list of basics to begin with :
Drawing boards, A3 (make at MS) / Pencils / sharpners / rubbers / colour pencils / charcoal / soft, hard & oil pastels / A4 & A3 newsprint & 150gsm cartridge paper /oil cloth to protect the table. Storage for these won’t take up much space.
All above are ‘non messy/dry’ mediums so that the ‘Clean Space’ stays clean. Acrylic and Oil paint are messy, especially at end of session cleanup and there are enough substances going down the drain anyway! There is a huge range of creating that can be achieved with the ‘non messy/dry’ mediums.
It’s not a ‘class’ - people just come along and do what they would like to. It’s organic and will grow where the members take it.
I have enough pencils and coloured pencils to supply a school, so will bring these in.
My drawing skills have declined since working with kids!
Great idea. Needs approval I guess from the @directors.
But with all things at our community centre, it will only work if some one wants to organise, promote, and commit to doing if it’s going to be regular.
Big apologies Tom & Dermot @directors that I didn’t include you in the post, I thought ‘at members’ went to everyone.
I totally agree with Paul and I am happy to organise, promote and commit. However, all groups need 2 people to do this because life happens around the plans we make.
It doesn’t have to be every Wednesday, it could be every other or once a month?
It was a pleasure to be in MakerSpace today - I’ve taken time off work to organise things for Kids Kreate, did lots, reached deadlines and decisions and have been able to take a breath for the first time in months. And then Chanelle cycled up and made my day cus she’s great. She screen printed, I made a sea creature out of copper pipe. Then Jo rocked up and took an angle grinder to things and happy sparks flew. Jess who’s a new member got the sewing machine working, fab! The ‘life members’ rocked up too to do what they do. MakerSpace is an excellent space for sure.
I’d love to do some drawing again, seems like years since I did any, and probably is…
Along the lines of what Tom said: members making/doing stuff is what it’s all about. Events that need a whole workshop, are open to non-members or need an AV element (meaning other members have to be quiet or otherwise change their behavior) are a little different.
I think A1 is too big for sitting at the table but it’s great to have these, can’t wait to see them. A2 would be the best size. To store? How about the side of the couch opposite the printer? Boards and paper could stand up and supplies in an A4 pencil case.
Ah, I see, they are easels, which is an excellent resource and will definitely get used happily. We do need some A2 sit at the table boards as well as both of these ways of drawing are different in outcome. Also, it’s great to sit down sometimes.
I think they’re buried behind the vintage log pile. Not terribly hard to get out, but time consuming in terms of moving the logs. There’s a couple other things buried back there that it’d be handy to extract, so happy to lend a hand.
